Working in tandem with multiple entities at the Tulsa Zoo, the design of this new exhibit focused on providing the optimum habitat for these large mammals with a focus on an educational and entertaining viewer experience. Large underwater viewing windows, a variety of at-grade observation stations, and an island performance platform all combine to afford the visitor ample opportunities to enjoy the languid swimmers in their natural habitat. Young and old are entertained and educated by the close-up viewing opportunities that leave the viewer with an appreciation for the fluid grace and speed of the sea lions in water.
Ample shade for spectators and sea lions , a rocky shore line for sea lion down time, and an attached, indoors, swim-in enclosure for the seals during winter cold spells round out the public areas of the exhibit. A quarantine area, medical facilities, and stand alone life support system are important back of house facilities.
